Given
their common recognition of Abraham, why do you think there has been so
much historical strife between these scripturally related religions?

The problem, as I see it, is that they see him in different ways. As we have been discussing in class the bible is vague on details. Pretty much any important passage (for a given value of important) can be interpreted in multiple ways. This vagueness extends to the chapters that involve Abraham, so naturally there is strife as to what those passages actually mean.
I think the historical strife comes from having to share Abraham. There are different stories that revolve around the different religions and Abraham, it just depends on which one a individual will follow.

Good point, Taylor... Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all contending for the same/similar turf, and that can clearly generate friction... often (sadly) more easily so than harmony.
