Click here (AlMonitor) to read about the recently opened archaeological site atop Mount Gerizim, a profoundly sacred place to the few hundred remaining members of the Samaritan religious community...

This has nothing to do with the article. I notice in Acts 10 it is important that Cornelius sends a devout soldier along with his servents. Is this because that non-devout soldiers wouldn't have the proper reverence? Is it because the non-devout soldiers would betray Cornelius in some manner? Why send a soldier in the first place. It seems to me like he would only send a soldier if he wanted to put some weight behind the request or protect Peter.

Good, close readings, Cameron. Your exegetical questions are also astute. Perhaps Cornelius needs to keep mindful of his own pagan surroundings, and not unduly irritate his own superiors? As for the soldier-escort, Cornelius was likely a person used to getting his way!

The archeological site sounds like a cool place to visit. This article was really informative about the two different group of peoples. Its interesting how similar the Samaritan religious community views themselves as the chosen people and have a similar holy place. This was a good read!
